Glenn Close is in final negatotiations to star in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy as the head of the Nova Corps, the intergalactic space patrol. The film is based on the comics of the same name and focuses on a team of superhumans and extraterrestrials dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy. Her role has been likened to that of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in The Avengers, and while it’s yet another inspired casting decision by Marvel & Gunn, I’m slightly disappointed she wasn’t tapped to play one of the film’s villains (Patty Hewes is scary as hell).
Close joins Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Lee Pace (Basil Sandhurst a.k.a. “The Controller”), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), David Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Michael Rooker (Yondu), John C. Reilly, & Ophelia Lovibond. Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
