Benicio Del Toro is set star in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. While Marvel is keeping character details under wraps, Del Toro will reportedly be taking on a role that “is built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies.” Since this is a multi-film deal Del Toro could possibly be playing Thanos or voicing Rocket Raccoon but we’ll have to wait until that’s officially confirmed by the studio. The film is based on the comics of the same name and focuses on a team of superhumans and extraterrestrials dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Del Toro joins Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Lee Pace (Basil Sandhurst a.k.a. “The Controller”), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), David Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Michael Rooker (Yondu), John C. Reilly, & Ophelia Lovibond. Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
