New concept art for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has been released. Part of Marvel’s phase two slate, the film is based on the comics of the same name and focuses on a team of superhumans and extraterrestrials dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), David Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Michael Rooker (Yondu) & Ophelia Lovibond star. Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to hit theaters August 1, 2014. Kevin Feige, Marvel’s president of production, remarked to Entertainment Weekly about the film:
“It’s a huge story on a massive canvas. We can take it to all those crazy places as long as all the characters respond in an emotionally truthful way. That’s why I believe people are going to respond to Chris Pratt and to an alien Zoë Saldana—because they did respond to that one time before [with Avatar]. And to a tree and a raccoon who, it is certainly our intention, will steal the whole movie.”
