Lee Pace is reportedly in final negotiations to play a villain in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Pace previously auditioned for lead role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (as did others like Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne, and Zachary Levi), but lost out to Parks & Rec’s Chris Pratt. Although Marvel is keeping the role under wraps for now, there’s a good chance he’ll end up playing Basil Sandhurst, a.k.a. “The Controller,” Thanos’ henchman who specializes in mind control.
The film is based on the comics of the same name which began in 1969 and focuses on a team of superhumans and extraterrestrials dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy. Zoe Saldana (Gamora), David Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Michael Rooker (Yondu) & Ophelia Lovibond also star. Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
